According to Nawab Shamsudaulla Shahanvaj, there are two branches of Rajput Kachhwah. They are ‘Rajavat’ and ‘Shekhavat’. It is said that there was a Kachhvaha King, who hadno son. One day a Muslim Darvesh blessed him and he became father of a son. The prince was named ‘Shekh’. His family was named ‘Shekhavat’. It is also said that Shekhavat is a sub-gotra of the gotra Banthia.
