Gautam gotri Palliwal Brahmins were
residing in Pali in V. 1248. They were in majority in number. They were
prominent peoplr of Pali at that time. They had a great say in the Government.
Mugal
Emperor Pirankhan attacked Pali in V. 1248. Pallival Brahmins fought bravely
but suffered heavy losses. Historians say that the sacred threads of all those
Brahmins killed in the war were collected and weighed. Their weight was 7.5
Maunds (One maund equal to about 40 kg.)
In the memory of
all Brahmin, martyrs was constructed a Tomb, which is still there and is called
Dhola-Chabutra.
In the last
moments of the war a miracle happened. Their Kuldevi Rohini Mata appeared and
ordered them to leave Pali and settle else-where. Paliwal Gunvasaji was the
chief of the Paliwals. They all agreed to obey the orders of their Kuldevi.
Gangadevji was son of Gunvasaji. All left Pali under the leadership of
Gangadevaji and established a new city named Gandoj in V. 1249. A temple and
atank were also constructed there in V. 1297.
Jain monks came
to the city and enlightened the said family and converted its members into
Oswals and named their gotra Gundesha or Gundecha.
Some Gundechas
left Gundoj in V. 1410, and settled in the city of Arnod, and then settled in
Marwar, so they were named Arnodaiyi. In the same way was the Malviya gotra
named. There are 35 Sub-Gotras of Gundecha.
The Sevags of
Udaipur declared that the persons of Gundecha and its sub-Gotras are originally
Brahmins, so they must not be included in the Oswals, therefore they filed a
suit in the court. Judge ruled that they were Oswals, But Oswal samaj refused
to have any family relations with them. This issue was taken up at 2nd
All India Oswal Mahasammelan of 20th century. i.e. in 1934. The
Sammela set up a commission. The Commission has declared that they are Oswals.
Then they became a part of Oswals.
Acharya Shri
Deosuri of Upkeshgachh enlightened Padihar Rao Ladhi at Pavagarh in V. 1026 and
named the new gotra Gundecha. Its sub-gotras are Gagoliya, and Vagani. Kuldevi
of these gotras is shri Rohini Mata of Gundoj.
