Gang

Following are the sub-gotras of Gang.

Gang, Palavat, Dudheria, Mohival, Gidia, Bambhi, Godwad, Tharavata, Khurda, Patva, Gop, Todarwal, Bhatia, Aalavat, Veeravat and God.

Narayansingh Parmar was the ruler of Mohipur in Mewar. One day Chouhans attacked Mohipur. The war continued for a long time. Then Parmars faced economic scarcity. Gangasingh son of Narayansingh said to his father that Acharya Shri Manidhari Jinchandra Suri had a lot of miracle powers and so they must go and get some help from him. After taking permission he left the Fort and reached near Ajmer where Acharya was staying. He prayed the Acharya to help him in such a critical position.

Acharya gave him a mantra and ordered him to go and fight alone with the enemy. When he reached near the enemy army, they saw that a huge army was coming in support of the Parmars, so they (enemy army men) ran away.

Narayansingh and all were surprised to see this miracle. They went to the Acharya and accepted non-violence and Jainism and became Oswals. Narayan singh had 16 sons, so separate gotras were named accordingg to the name of his sons as under :

Gotra Gang was the family of Gangasingh

Gotra Mohiwal was the family of Mohiwal

Gotra Dudheria was the family of Dudherao

Gotra Patva etc. were the families of persons who took to the vocation of Patvas etc.
