Dugar, Sugar


According to the historian Dr. J.P. Krishnanathan, Soordeo was named Dugar and Sugad. Both were very intelligent and chivalrous. Acharya Shri Sidhchandra Suri arranged a Sangh from Aaghat to Satrunjaya. More than 1700 persons were included in this Sangh. Shri Bhanuchandra and Sheeldeo renounced the world and became Jain monks. Dugar and Sughar were so impressed that they converted them-selves into the non-violent cult of Oswals. Their Gotra were named Dugar and Sugar accordingly.

           

According to Shri Jabarmal Dugar, Deoraj Chouhan was rediding in Osiyan in V. 1122/1222. His son was Dugardas. His wife’s name was Ladbai. He became a Jain and converted himself into believerin non-viloence and into an Oswal. His son was Motochandji. In V. 1355 Ramsingh Dugar left Osiyan and came to Dronpur. In V. 1420 Jagmalsingh Dugar left Dronpur and came to Mahajan. In V. 1690 Thakursingh Dugar left Mahajan and settled in Toliasar. In V. 1896 Shri Puranchand, Premchand, Chainroop, and Maghraj Dugar left Toliasar and settled in Sardarshahar. In the 7th generation of Dugarji were two brother named Vijaysingh and Jagchandra. Vijaychand who became Jain monks under Acharya Shri Maniratna Suri. In V. 1274 when Maniratna Suri expired Vijaysingh Sury became Acharya. And Jagchand took Diksha under Vijaysingh Suri. In V. 1285 Maharana Jetsingh of Mewar honoured Acharya Vijaysingh Suri with the title of ‘Tap-Put’. In this way Tappa Gachh came into existence.

           

Emperor Akbar appointed Raja Mansinghji as the Governor of Punjab. At this time Raja Mansinghji invited many Oswals of Rajasthan to Punjab. Dharmshah Dugar went to Chirar. Some criminals murdered Dharmshah, so his family settled at Rohtas. After Independence this family came and settled at Ambala.

 

Acharya Maniratna Suri And Acharya Jagchandra Suri

           

The 7th in the pedigree of Dugarji was Purandave. His two sons became Jain Monks elder was Acharya Maniratna Suri the disciple of Acharya Vijaisingh Suri and younger was Acharya Jagchandra Suri. He was the disciple of his elder brother Acharya Shri Maniratna Suri. In V. 1274 Maharana Jaitsingh of Mewar honoured him with the title of ‘Tap Put’. It is said that the Tappa-Gachh was started from that time. The name Tappa-Gachh is the reformed name of Badgachh.            

 

Mahshraman Shri Mudit Kumar

           

Shri Mudit kumar was born on Vaishakh Shukla 9th of V. 2019 at Sadarshahar. His father was Shri Zumarmal Dugar. He lost his father at the age of 7 years. He renounced the world at the age of 12 years at Sardarshahar under the leadership of Mini Sumermalji of Ladnu in V. 20131.

           

In a short period he studied Hindi, English Sanskrit, and Prakrit languages and Jain Agam Darshan, grammar, and became an extraordinary Muni of Jain Shwetamber Terapanth Sampradaya. He possesses all the good qualities of a noble Jain Monk.

           

He was promoted to the post of Mahashraman by the 9th Acharya of Terapanth Samaj. Acharya himself told at the time of his promotion that Muni Mudit Kumar had got the extraordinary qualities. He is a man without any expectation and free from all desires and Acharya Shri Mahapragya said, “I am feeling very happy to get such a Mahashraman.

 

Acharya Shri Kashiramji Maharaj

           

He was born in V. 1950 at Pasroor (Punjab) in a Duggar family. He was muni of Acharya Shri Sohanlalji Maharaj.

 

Dugar Raja Pratapsingh.

           

His father Veerdas settled in Murshidabad Pratapsinghji purchased a huge Zamidari. He was the richest Jamindar among all Oswal at that time. He built Jain temples and arranged Sanghs from Palitana and Sametshikhar. The Emperor of Delhi and Nawab of Bengal honoured him.

 

Dugar Mejor General Diwan Bishandasji – Jammu

           

His parents settled in Kasoor (Pakistan). At the time of Maharaja Ranjeetsinghji they went to Lahore (Pakisthan), from Lahore they went to Jammu via Majitha. Bisonsinghji born in V. 1921. He joined his services it the State of Kashmir as the Private Secretary of Raja Ramsinghji. Then he became Military Secretary to the Commander-in-chief of Kashmir. Army. He became Home Minister and then Revenue Minister. He became chief minister of Kashmir State.

           

At the time of World War he helped British Government with the money and army.

           

In 1911 he was honoured with the title of ‘Rai Bahadur’ In 1915 British Government honoured him with the title of C.I.E. In 1920 with the title of C.S.I.

           

He was the President of Punjab Sthanakvasi Confernce of Siyalkot and Lahore. Dharm Mahamandal of Siyalkot and Lahore. Dharm Mahamandal of Kashi also honoured him.

 

Dugar Diwan Anantramji

           

He was Private Secretary of Kashmir State. He started Law Practice but Maharaja Amarsinghji called him and made him his private Secretary and then promoted to the post of Chief Judge.

 

Dugar Raibahadur Lxmipatsingh

           

He built a beautiful garden at Chhatrabagh in V. 1933. It is one of the noted tourist places of Calcutta. He arranged a Sangh in V. 1927. In V. 1924 Government of India honoured him with the title of ‘Rai-Bahadur.’

 

Dugar Rai-Bahadur Dhanpatsingh

           

He was brother of Laxmipatsingh. He spent a lot of money in writing and publishing Jain Agams and distributed them free of cost. He built Jain Temples and Dharm shalas at more than 24 places. The temple of Palitana Talhati is very beautiful. He managed Sanghs for four times and donated a lot of money to the societies. Government of India awarded him the title of ‘Raibahadur’ in V. 1932.

 

Dugar Raja Narpatsingh

           

He had a huge Zamindari of 400 Sq. miles of area. Government of India honoured him with the title of ‘Keshari Hind’ and ‘Rai-Bahadur.

 

Dugar Raja Bahadursingh

           

He took over the charge of the management of samedshikhar and Champapuri. His estate was popularly known as Baluchar estate.

 

Dugar Shripatsingh

           

He renovated the temples of Bhagalur, Rajgrah, Pavapuri, Jiaganj, Kathgola, and Varanasi. He set up a library in the Jain Bhawan of Calcutta. He donated his place of Jiaganj to the High School.

 

Dugar Shah Karamchand  - Gujranawala (Pakistan)

           

He was born at Gujranawala (Pakistan) in V. 1875. His father Shri Shah Dharmyash was a Gold Merchant of Gujranawala. He was very famous for his honesty.

           

Shah Karamchand was a specialist of all the 32 Jain Agams. Many Jain males and females monks used to come to him for the study of ‘Agams’. When Jain monks were not present there, he used to deliver lectures to the public.

           

Rishi Buterai came to Gujranawala in V. 1897. He discussed with Mr. Dugar, and then he started the arduous work on the Jain Agams. In Gujranawala.

 

Dugar Shri Sampatram - Sardarshahar

           

Shri Chainroop travelled on foot for three and half months and reached Calcutta in 1814. In  


Calcutta he took to cloth business and very soon he become a famous merchant. He was the first person to imported cloth in India. He died in 1893.

           

His son Sampatram was a very honest person. The ruler Gangasingh of Bikaner was much pleased with him. He was the purchase officer of the state. Maharaja Shardulsingh also honoured him with Siropav, Certificates, ornaments, Free excise tax right, Permission to ride elephant, golden and Silver Chaddi. Etc.

 

Dugar Sumermal – Sardarshahar.

           

He was son of Seth Sampatramaji. He was hard honest. At the time of Price-Control he did not purchased sugar or other items in black. He never accepted extra profit on any thing. All the Income tax and Sales tax officers blindly believed his account books.

 

Dugar Shri Bhanwarlal – Sardarshahar

           

He was the son of Dugar Seth Sumermalji. He was born in 1918. He founded Seth Sampatram Dugar school ad Sardarshahar. His younger brother Shri Kanahayalal established Gandhi Vidhya Mandir, but he had no interest in the worldly affaires, so he handed over the charge of Gandhi Vidhya Mandir to Shri Banwarlalji. He executed many projects, regarding Ballade, Basic Research training College, Mahila Vidhyapeeth, Gaushala, Veternary Hospital and Research centre. In 1954 he founded ‘Gram Jyoti Kendra’ and ‘Ayurvedic Vishva Bharti’ and donated Rs. 2 lacs. He died in 1961 in a car accident.

 

Dugar Shri Ravalmal Jain ‘Mani’ – Durg

           

He was born at Parasbod (Durg), on 04-02-1938. He passed M.A., D.P.J., Ph.D. He is a writer. He has written many books of Hindi fiction, poetry, Jain Literature etc. He was the editor of the Chhatisgarh Daily from 1969 to 1979. In short he is a poet, writer, orator and a devotee of Jainism. He founded a grand temple, Dharmshala & Poushadh Shalas etc. at village Nagpura near Durg. Hundreds of Jains visit it every day.

 

Dugar Jawaharchand Kothari

           

This family was originally resident of Nagour. Panchanandji Dugar was honoured with the title of Raoraja Bahadur. In V. 1765 with Gold, Elephant, Palki and Siropav.


His son was in charge of Kothars s they were named Kothari. Kothari Hirachand was a poet.

Kothari Kawaharchand was Diwan of Ratlam State.

 

Dugar Raja Pratapsinghji – Murshidabad.

           

He belongs to the family of Raja Veersinghji. He established his many estates in different Districts. He was the Biggest Jamindar of Jain Samaj. He built Jain Temples, managed Sanghs for Palitana and samed Shikhar. Emperor of Delhi and the Nawab f Bengal honoured him. His son was Laxmipatsingh.

 

Dugar Raja Laxmiparsingh – Murshidabad

           

In V. 1935 He prepared a very beautiful garden at Kothgola, which is one of the much frequented Tourist places of W. Bengal In V. 1924 Government of India honoured him with the title of ‘Rao-Bahadur’.

 

Dugar Dhanpatsinghji – Calcutta

           

He was the brother of Laxmipatsinghgji. He published mand Jain books and distributed them free of cost. He built more than 24 Jain temples and Dharmshalas. He also built a very beautiful temple at the Talhati of Palitana. He was honoured by the title of ‘Rai-BAhadur’ in 1932. His son was also honoured with the title of ‘Rai-Bahadur’.

 

Dgar Raja Bahadursinghji – Baluchar

           

Jain Samaj had handed over the management of Samed Shikhar and Champapuri to him. He was the Zamindar of Baluchar.

 

Dugar Shripatsingh

           

He was a very famous person. He did the renovation of the Jain temples of Bhagalpur, Rajgrah, Pavapuri, Jiaganj, Kathgola and Varansi. The Jain Bhawan library of Calcutta was built with his donations. He donated his palace of Jiaganj for the High School there.


Dugar Jawaharchand Kothari – Ratlam

           

The title of ‘Raoraja Bahadur’ was given to the ancestors of his family. Bali Dugar settled in Namli and did work of Kothar, so they were named Kothari. Shri Jawaharchand Kothari was the Diwan of Ratlam.

 

Dugar Chainroop Sampatram – Sardarshahar

         

He was originally resident of Toliasar of Bikaner. His ancestors in Sardarshahar. Shri Chainroopji established his firm named Chanroop Sampatraj at Calcutta and earned a lot. His son Shri Sampatramji Started the business of importing cloth from foreign. Bikaner state honoured him by Chhadi, Chapras, Elephant and permission to were gold on feet.

 

Dugar Danveer Seth Sohanlal – Fatehpur

           

At that time Fatehpur was in the hands of Nawab. His ancestors were Desh Diwan of the Nawab. Seth Sohanlal Dugar was a  famous and expert businessman in the field of speculation. He was a generous donor.

 

Dugar Shri Ramnarayan – Udaipur

           

He was born in V. 1913 at Bikaner. His father Shri Gulabchandji settled in Udaipur in V. 1923. He was the first Oswal student who passed Matric with English medium. Mewar Maharana Shri Sajjansingh appointed him hakim of the Department of Gardebs. He was interested in the research of History. His published works include ‘Prithwiraj Chauhan’, ‘Rajasthan Ratnakar’ Part 1 and 2. His work ‘Maharana Sangramsingh’ was published by Nagri Pracharini Sabha. ‘Veer Bhoomi Chitor’ was published  in V. 1977. He translated ‘Mushata Nensee ki Khayat’ which was published by Nari Prachani Sabha.

 

Duar Lala Khushiram – Gujranvala (Pakistan)

           

He was a great poet and a scholor of Jainism. His written poetry  (Dohas, Stavan. Barahamasi, Lavni, etc.) was very famous in Punjab. The description of Jain Monks, Jain festivals there in are very fine, But this collection has remained unpublished.

 

Dugar Shri Indr Babu – Jiaganj (Murshidabad)

           

This ancestor of Shri Hirachandji Duar arrived from Rajaldesar and settled in Jiaganj of Murshidabad. He left his parental business and started developing his hobby of painting. He studied in the Art school of Calcutta and went to Shanty Niketan. There he got training under Acharya Nandlal Basu for five years about. He was a wonderful Artist. His paintings have no parallel. His son was Shri Inder Dugar. He was born on V. 1977. He was a born artist. He was a lover of Nature. He was called in Ramgarh Congress Session in V. 1996 for decoration of the campus. When people saw his art they were spellbound with the art of Dugar.

           

The father and the son both depicted in their paintings natural scenes of Rajgirah (V.2003). The pictures of Indrababu contained a three dimensional effect. Then Indrababu got the contract of decorating the Congress Nagar for the Congress Session of 2006 of Jaipur, and 2013 of Amritsar. His paintings were exhibited in the exhibition of Paris organized by UNESCO in V. 2003. In V. 2021 an exhibition of his 80 paintings was arranged in West Germany. The walls of Gerand Hotel, Parliaments House and many famous places contains his colleges. He was honoured and rewarded by the Dance, Drama, Music and Charukala Academy of West Bengal in V. 2038-39. HE painted thousands of Pictures on Rajasthani life style. The famous English Painter Sir Rasel Flintens, Frank Braguine, Aagustus Jone were delighted to see his paintings.

 

Dugar Shah Karamchand – Gujranawala (Pakistan)

           

He was born at Gujranawala (Pakistan) in V. 1875. His father Shri Shah Dharmyash was a Goldn Merchant of Gujranawala. He was known for his honesty.

Shah Karamchand was an expert of all the 32 Jain Agams. Many Jain males an dfemales monks used to come to him in India, his family settled in Agra.

 

Dugar Chaudhary Mathuradas, Gujranawala

           

He was younger brother of Dugar Karamchandji. Jain Samaj of Gujranawala, honoured him with the title of ‘Chaudhary’ he was the Sir-Panch of the Panchayati. The local courts also used to honour his Judgments. All Punjabi named him ‘Bapuji’. He died in V.1966 at Jalandhar.

 

Dugar Chaudhary Dinanath – Gujranawala

           

He was son of Dugar Mathuradasji. He was also Chaudhary of the city. Whole Jain samaj of Gujranawala celebrated a grand function in V. 2004, to honour him. After independence when all the 300 Jain families marched towards India with the Acharya Shri Vijayanand Suri in the security guard of the Army, the anti-social persons murdered the second son of Dinanathji. Dugur, Sugar. In India his family settled at Agra.

Dugar sukh ji

           

Sukhji Dugar settled in V. 1819 at Rajgarh. The Emperor Shahjahan appointed Sukhji the commander of his army, and a title of ‘Raja’ His decedent Shri Veerdas settled in murshidabadinth 18th century.
