On
Jalore Devra Chouhan Maharaj Samant Singh was the ruler. He had two Queens and
three sons named Sagar, Viramdev and Kanhad and a daughter named Uma. Uma was
married to the king of Pungal. Viramdev was the next ruler because Sagar was
adopted by the Delvada King of Abu and sat on the throne of Bhilwara.
When
Malik Mohd attacked Chittor the King of Chittor Ratan Singh demanded help from
Sagar. Sagar was victorious and was honoured by Ratan Singh, the King of
Chittor.
The
Emperor of Gujrat sent a messenger to Sagar to accept his subordination, but
Sagar attacked Gujrat and won the battle. The emperor of Gujrat ran away from
the battle field. The Delhi emperor Mohd. Gori attacked. Rana Ratan Singh at
that time Sagar made a treaty with Gouri and collected a fine of Rs. 22 lakhs,
and returned the province of Malwa in Gujrat to Gouri. Rana Ratan Singh was
much impressed with the intelligence of Sagar and offered him the post of his
Minister. In V. 1197 Bohith son of Sagar became king of Delwada. One day he
went to the Acharya Jin Dutt Suri and enquired about the fate of their kingdom.
Acharya, “The fate of your kingdom is quite uncertain. If you adopt Jainism and
convert yourself into an Oswal, only then you can save the life of your whole
family”.
Bohith,
“If I became Mahajan then I would have to adopt business, and surrender the
arms. And in this way we will lose the Kingship.”
Acharya, “You do not know the
nature of the world. This goddess of royal grandeur is as unsteady as the ear
of elephant or the leaf of a banyan tree. It is fickle. All your sons can not
be the kings but I can make them prosperous. Forever.”
Bohith
appointed Karan his eldest son as heir apparent and converted the rest all the
seven sons (Jaisa, Jaimall, Nanha, Bhimsingh, Samdharji, and Punyapal) to the
creed of Mahajans. The gotra of Bohit’s came to be known as Bothras.
